The US Army Chemical Demil Program commissioned a remotely operated severing system for demilitarization of a stockpile of 155mm chemical projectiles. This involved the safe retrieval and disposal of the chemical agents GB, VX and other biohazards contained inside the projectile.

Design and construct lathe cutting machine capable of severing a 155mm 1.5" (38.1mm) outer carbon steel casing within 90 seconds or less. Designed to be fully remote controlled for performing cutting operations inside an airtight chamber, the U.S. Army requirement was to withstand over 250,000 repeated cycles without system intervention or maintenance.
