At the Newport News shipbuilding facility, a major military contractor required a portable machine for severing motor tube support seals. This operation stipulated no introduction of any foreign materials, particulates or chip debris inside the tube ID.
Wachs Solution:
Utilizing chipless cutting to eliminate debris, a support tube cutter was designed and built with a solid bearing machine tool frame, equipped with cut elevation fixtures and a self centering leg clamping system. The machine frame housed two opposing self indexing chipless wheel carriers for precision segmenting of the support tube seals.
