A major US based electric utility commissioned two custom Girth Cutting Weld Prep Machines, designed to simultaneously perform precise machine cuts and weld preparations on both the existing steam drums and the new replacement sub assemblies. These assemblies measured 16.75' (5.1m) OD with a 6.54" (16.6cm) wall.

These Girth Cutting machines each consisted of twin opposing tool carriers and 12 integral clamping pads for fine positioning and precision severing and beveling of the large diameter drums.
